The open is coming up soon guys. We’re still in the thick of off-season training and now is the time of the year to really fine tune your gymnastics, barbell skills and strength. Programming should change based on the time of the year and if you’re continuing to just grind through met-con like you do the same all year round you are missing out on some valuable time to make progress in skill and strength work.
If you read this website regularly you’ll know that I provide a subscription service with a done for you training program for yourself or your gym. I’m a huge fan of programming and feel it is a huge piece of the puzzle when it comes to injury prevention and training success.
One our side of things we’re also starting to incorporate more specific conditioning to get ready come the start of the open. High rep squatting, pullups, jumping and oly will almost certainly show up this year in some form and we will be ready.
I know it seems like every month I’m constantly adding more and more gymnastics and olympic weightlifting skills but this month has been the best so far in my opinion. I’ve recently come home from the Power Monkey Camp as well as Jason Leydon’s (Grid League Coach of Philly Founders) Camp in Connecticut and have learned some wonderful drills I’ve been drooling over working into the programming over the next few months. This month has a heavy influence from Dave Durante, Chad Vaughn, Jason Leydon, Colin Geraghty, Chris Hinshaw, Rupert Egan, Duke Van Vleet and Mike Cerbus.
